McDonald’s Monopoly 2023 and Winning Sips Competition – Update April 2023

If you’re eagerly awaiting the launch of McDonald’s Monopoly 2023 then we’ll be updating this page with all the information as soon as it’s announced in 2023. In the meantime, we’re looking at what you can expect from McDonald’s Monopoly and taking a look back over the past few years.

When does the McDonald’s Monopoly 2023 start?

McDonald’s Monopoly is expected to return in September 2023.

When did McDonald’s Monopoly previously run?

The 2022 McDonald’s Monopoly started on 7th September 2022 and ran for 6 weeks, ending on 18th October 2022. All prizes must be redeemed by 15th November 2022.

Prior to 2022, there was a break in the McDonald’s Monopoly due to the pandemic. Before that, this incredibly popular prize draw usually kicked off in March and ran for 6 weeks through to mid-April. There is a chance that McDonald’s will change back to the original schedule, so we’ll keep this post current and up to date with any new information as it is released.

For now, the expectation is that this will be an Autumn competition for McDonald’s.

What prizes were up for grabs in 2022?

Prizes ranged from ‘instant prize wins’ that got you free food or drink options such as a McFlurry, Big Mac or medium drink all the way up to 5 chances to win £100,000 cash provided by McDonald’s.

How to play McDonald’s Monopoly

Collect to win – Property prizes

In addition to the Instant Win prizes, you could have received a Monopoly property sticker that you can collect to put towards winning one of the larger prizes. When you think about how you play Monopoly normally this starts to make more sense.

In the traditional game, you collect properties in their corresponding colour sets to “win”. With McDonald’s Monopoly, this is similar in that you collect properties or stations to win prizes. Some colours will need only 2 properties to win a prize, but others 3 or 4. That said, the top prize of £100,000 cash requires only 2 properties, PARK LANE M420 and MAYFAIR M421 but the Mayfair property is one of the rarest with only 5 printed in total. If you get one of these, hold onto it!!!

When you receive a collect-to-win property you should bank these into your Properties Wallet via the McDonald’s app or mcdcollect.co.uk in order to begin the claim journey for any completed sets.

What is McDonald’s Monopoly Double Peel?

McDonald’s Monopoly is a free prize draw for customers across the UK. In 2022, it was also known as McDonald’s Monopoly Double Peel to denote the double opportunity to win. When you buy a valid item from McDonald’s during the prize draw timeframe, you will receive a Monopoly sticker on the food packaging. These are known as the “Game Pieces”.

Some game pieces will have instant win prizes such as food or drink vouchers. Others will represent properties on a traditional Monopoly board. To win the prizes associated you need to collect all colours of a particular street. For example to win the £100,000 cash prize you need both dark blue properties, Mayfair and Park Lane. To win a £2,000 holiday with TUI, you need the yellow properties, Leicester Square, Coventry Street and Piccadilly.

How can I maximise my chances of winning?

Winners win and while McDonald’s Monopoly is a game of chance, you may want to maximise your chances of taking home a prize.

1. Use the McDonald’s app to double your chances of winning

In 2022 for the first time, the McDonald’s app featured a digital board game and a wallet to keep your awarded stickers safe. Every time you scan or add a physical sticker code to your wallet, you can ‘double up‘ with a ‘digital peel’ within the app, giving you double the chances to win.

You can get a bonus ‘digital peel’ for free when you scan your physical property stickers into the McDonald’s app – giving you more chances to win.

2. Keep any rare stickers you find

In 2022, there were a total of 9 rare stickers to be found in the McDonald’s Monopoly. As you progress around the Monopoly board from Brown to Dark blue, the rarity of the pieces increases. There are 2,100,000 x Old Kent Road stickers printed and only 5 x Mayfair stickers.

  • Brown: Old Kent Road
  • Pink: Northumberland Avenue
  • Light blue: Euston Road
  • Orange: Marlborough Street
  • Train stations: Liverpool St Station
  • Red: Strand
  • Yellow: Coventry Street
  • Green: Bond Street
  • Dark blue: Mayfair

3. Sign up to McDonald’s rewards for an extra peel, free

If you’ve signed up for the McDonald’s rewards scheme you will receive a free bonus peel, sent directly to the email address associated with your account. This applies to new and existing McDonald’s rewards app users.

4. Ask co-workers, friends and family members to keep their stickers for you

After reading the Terms and Conditions of McDonald’s Monopoly Double Peel it seems that you need to purchase the food to officially be in possession of a game piece from its packaging. I don’t know how this would be questioned if you are in possession of the physical sticker, but assuming you’re willing to risk it, getting stickers from those people who aren’t saving them, is a great way to build your sets quickly.

I’ve read about some people online choosing to ask people in their McDonald’s for the stickers after they’ve finished their food, or pick the labels off packaging left discarded on tables. Completely up to you how you obtain your stickers, but just beware it may fall foul of the T&C’s.

Other things to consider

Some items don’t come with a sticker on them

Some of McDonald’s most popular items such as the Big Mac don’t come with a sticker on them. Only the products listed below will be applicable to receive a game piece/label.

Don’t share photos of your game pieces online

Over the last couple of years, people have shared photos of their rare McDonald’s Monopoly game pieces on social media before registering the property code from the game piece via the app or at mcdcollect.co.uk. When they did this, someone used the number to register the game piece on their own account, effectively stealing the code.

Make sure to cover the property code if you’re posting any photos of your game pieces online. Or, you know just don’t! Better safe than sorry!

Which products are labels on?

McDonald’s Monopoly labels don’t come with every product at McDonald’s. If you’re a Big Mac fan who wants to maximise your chances of winning, you’ll need to change your meal for the next few weeks! The products you need to buy to get a Monopoly game piece are:

  • Spicy Chicken McNuggets or Spicy Chicken McNuggets Sharebox
  • McPlant™
  • Chicken & Bacon Salad or Chicken Salad
